Tryouts at Venice FC Miami

Tryouts are how new players join the Venice FC Miami family. They are held ahead of each season, and they are designed to be a fair, welcoming evaluation rather than an intimidating audition. This page explains, in general terms, how the process works and what players and parents can expect.

How the process works

Tryouts typically involve one or more on-field sessions with our coaching staff. Depending on the circumstances of a given season, evaluations may also include virtual elements, but the heart of the process is always watching players actually play.

  • Warm-up and technical work. Players start with ball work so coaches can see touch, control, and comfort on the ball.
  • Small-sided games. Much of the session is played in small groups, where decision-making, movement, and personality show naturally.
  • Full games. Older groups usually finish with larger-sided play so coaches can see positional understanding.

What our coaches look for

We evaluate more than raw ability. Because our club works from a defined game model, coaches pay attention to how a player thinks and behaves, not just what tricks they can perform. Attitude, coachability, effort, and how a player treats teammates all matter. A player having a quiet day on the ball can still stand out through work rate and character.

What to bring and how to prepare

Players should arrive with normal training gear: cleats, shin guards, a ball if possible, and water. Come rested, arrive early enough to settle in, and plan to play hard and have fun. For a deeper guide, read our article on how to prepare for a soccer tryout in the resources section.

After the tryout

Following evaluations, the club contacts families about placement. Not every player is offered a spot in every group, but every player is treated with respect, and we are always happy to give honest feedback. For current tryout information, reach out through the contact page.
